Celebrity chef Vikas Khanna, recently named among TIME100 Most Influential People of 2026, revealed that his favourite Indian restaurant is Soam in Mumbai, lauding its authentic home cooking and preservation of culinary heritage.
Mumbai, May 18: Michelin‑starred chef and TIME100 honoree Vikas Khanna has revealed his favourite restaurant in India, and it is not a fine‑dining establishment but a family eatery in South Bombay. In a recent podcast with limitlesswithishan, Khanna said, “My favourite restaurant has to be this restaurant in South Bombay called Soam. I love that restaurant.”

Khanna, who rose from Amritsar to global fame with his New York restaurants Junoon and Bungalow, explained that Soam embodies the power of Indian home cooking. According to him, traditional Indian techniques are supreme and do not need Western embellishments to impress. He described his dining experience at Soam as one of the best, praising the restaurant for keeping India’s culinary heritage alive.

Located at Sadguru Sadan near Babulnath Temple, Grant Road, Mumbai, Soam is known for its Gujarati delicacies, street food, South and North Indian offerings, desserts, and beverages. The restaurant has built a loyal following for its authentic recipes and regional delights, including Dal Dhokli, Malai Malpua, Shrikhand Puri, Biscuit Bhakri, and Ganne Ka Juice. Soam’s menu celebrates traditional cooking methods and showcases dishes that resonate with the comfort of home food.

Khanna highlighted that restaurants like Soam, which preserve culinary traditions, are the real heroes of India’s food and beverage industry. He emphasized that there is much to be safeguarded in Indian gastronomy, and establishments that focus on authenticity play a vital role in cultural preservation.

Beyond restaurant dining, Khanna also expressed his love for homemade food, particularly Methi Aloo prepared by his mother. He has shared the recipe on social media, underscoring his deep connection to simple, home‑style cooking.
