Police Probe / Odisha Police Boosts Cybercrime Probes with RailTel Deal

Bhubaneswar, Jul 29: Odisha Police has taken a major step to enhance its cybercrime investigation capabilities by awarding a ₹43.89 crore contract to RailTel Corporation of India Limited, a government-owned telecom and IT enterprise.

Under this project, RailTel will deploy 170 trained experts specializing in cyber forensics, digital evidence analysis, IT systems, and financial crime investigation.

The initiative aims to make cybercrime probes more scientific and technologically advanced. The experts will assist Odisha Police in tackling online fraud, digital payment scams, hacking incidents, forensic examination of electronic devices, and complex cybercrime cases.

Their expertise will also help in collecting and analysing digital evidence, tracing financial transactions, and ensuring faster and more accurate investigations.

This project is not just a routine telecom assignment but a strategic move to strengthen Odisha Police’s cyber investigation infrastructure. With cyber fraud, phishing, and digital scams rising across India, state police forces are increasingly focusing on advanced technology and skilled manpower. RailTel, which manages telecom networks for Indian Railways, has in recent years expanded its portfolio to include IT services, data centres, cloud solutions, cybersecurity, and e-governance projects for government departments.

Officials believe the partnership will significantly boost Odisha Police’s ability to investigate cyber and financial crimes.
