Crime in Odisha / Mother and Disabled Daughter Found Dead in Mayurbhanj, Police Suspect Murder

Udala (Mayurbhanj), Jul 28: A chilling double death in Mayurbhanj’s Udala has shocked the region, raising suspicions of murder. The decomposed body of Phulamani Hembram was discovered inside her hut, while her disabled minor daughter’s body was found floating in a nearby canal.

The incident occurred in Dibyasinghpur village near Anwesha Hostel, where locals first noticed a foul smell from Phulamani’s hut and later spotted the girl’s body in the canal. Police rushed to the scene, recovering both bodies and launching an investigation with the help of a scientific team.

Relatives revealed that Phulamani, who worked in nearby households, always took her disabled daughter along. Her nephew Mohan Tudu expressed shock, saying they had no idea how the deaths occurred.

The hut where Phulamani lived was found in disarray, adding to suspicions of foul play. Villagers recalled past disputes over her land and a violent incident in May when she and her daughter were attacked by locals over a dog-related quarrel, a case that had reached the police.

Residents suspect the deaths may be linked to these disputes. Raj Kiran Raut, a local, suggested that the land conflict could have led to the brutal killings. The fact that the mother and daughter’s bodies were found at separate locations has deepened the mystery.

Police have begun a thorough investigation, but the exact cause of death remains unclear. The shocking discovery has spread panic and outrage in the area, with villagers demanding justice and clarity on the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
