Nisshin, Sep 28: Persistent rain forced the abandonment of India’s second quarterfinal against Afghanistan at Korogi Sports Park on Monday, with the defending champions progressing to the Asian Games semifinals on the basis of their higher ranking.
The first quarterfinal met the same fate, as the Pakistan-Hong Kong, China clash was also called off without a ball being bowled. With rain disrupting proceedings in Nisshin, Pakistan advanced to the semifinals as the higher-ranked side.
Rain had already affected conditions in the city on the eve of the quarterfinals before returning on Monday. The Pakistan-Hong Kong, China match was scheduled to begin at 5:30 am IST, but persistent showers forced its abandonment without even a toss.
The India-Afghanistan contest was due to start at 10:30 am IST, with the toss scheduled for 10 am. However, relentless rain through the morning left no scope for play and the match was eventually called off.

India and Pakistan were the higher-ranked teams in the ICC rankings against their respective opponents and made it to the next stage.
India are ranked No.1 in the world, while Afghanistan are the 10th-ranked side. Pakistan are placed sixth in the team rankings, while Hong Kong, China are ranked 24th.
India T20I captain Shreyas Iyer was also asked about the rain threat, but he kept his focus largely on the game ahead of the quarterfinal. "Yes, rain is there, but that is the reason we can't give up because we have decided that we are a bunch of professionals and all these hurdles will keep coming. We have to be prepared mentally irrespective of whatever the situation is going to be.

India will face the winner of the third quarterfinal between Sri Lanka and Nepal in the semifinal, while Pakistan will take on the winner of the fourth quarterfinal between Bangladesh and Malaysia.
