New Delhi, Jan 14: Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy has announced her retirement from international cricket, bringing the curtain down on a remarkable 16-year career.

The decision comes ahead of Australia’s multi-format series against India in February and March, where Healy will captain the ODI and Test sides before stepping away from the game.

Healy, one of the most decorated players in women’s cricket, leaves behind a legacy that includes six T20 World Cup titles, two ODI World Cups, and a Commonwealth Games gold medal.

She is also among Australia’s top run-scorers across formats, with 7,106 runs, trailing only Meg Lanning and Ellyse Perry.

Her retirement from T20 internationals is immediate, meaning she will not feature in the three-match series against India, including the Sydney opener that could have been a farewell in front of her home crowd. The decision allows Australia to prepare for the upcoming ICC Women’s T20 World Cup in England and Wales without her, with their campaign beginning in June.

The latter stages of Healy’s career were marked by injuries, including a fractured thumb and calf strain, which tested her resilience. She admitted that the physical and mental demands had taken a toll, leading to her decision to step away.

Mitchell Starc, Healy’s husband and Australian pace spearhead, shared a heartfelt tribute on social media. Posting a simple three-word phrase, “Proud of ya,” alongside a heart emoji, Starc summed up his admiration for her achievements. He also shared a separate post celebrating her illustrious career, highlighting the couple’s bond that has spanned nearly a decade since their marriage in 2016.
