Suna Besha / Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra Adorn Golden Attire on Chariots in Puri

Puri, Jul 25: Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra and Devi Subhadra adorned the magnificent Golden Attire (Suna Besha) atop their chariots on Saturday, one of the most revered and visually spectacular rituals of the annual Rath Yatra.

Following the completion of the Bahuda Yatra, the sibling deities are resting on their chariots near the Singhadwara of the Jagannath Temple in Puri and will appear in the royal golden attire before returning to the sanctum sanctorum.

The ritual, observed on Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi, is the occasion when deities are adorned with quintals of gold ornaments, offering devotees a rare glimpse of the divine siblings in regal splendour.

Deities To Be Decked With Elaborate Gold Ornaments
For the Suna Besha, the Chaturdhamurti will be decorated from head to toe with an array of ornate gold jewellery. The adornments include golden crowns (Kirita), earrings (Kundala), gem-studded Ghagadamali, Bahadamali, Tabijamali, Haridamali, Kadambamali, Baghanakhi Mali, Sebati Mali, Halamushala, Chakra, Tilaka, Adakani, Chandra-Surya, Alaka, Odiani, Chandrika and Tadagi, among other sacred ornaments.

The royal appearance of the deities on their chariots is regarded as one of the most-awaited spectacles of the Rath Yatra, drawing lakhs of devotees from across Odisha and beyond.

Heavy Rush Leaves Highway Gridlocked
The massive inflow of pilgrims has triggered severe traffic congestion on the Bhubaneswar-Puri National Highway since Saturday morning.

A major traffic jam has been reported near Batagaon, where vehicles have been crawling for long stretches. Commuters have reportedly remained stranded for nearly an hour at several points as thousands of buses, cars and two-wheelers head towards Puri for the Suna Besha darshan.

Long queues of vehicles have formed along the highway, reflecting the unprecedented rush of devotees travelling to the pilgrim town.

Police Intensify Traffic Management
In view of the heavy turnout, the traffic police and Puri district administration stepped up traffic regulation measures across key junctions and congestion points to facilitate smoother vehicular movement.

Police personnel have been deployed at strategic locations to manage traffic and assist commuters. The administration has advised devotees to check the latest traffic updates before travelling to Puri, follow traffic rules and cooperate with police personnel on duty.
