Suna Besha 2026 / Lord Jagannath and Siblings to Adorn Golden Attire Today; Devotees Rush Puri

Puri, July 25: A wave of devotion and spiritual excitement has swept across Puri as the sacred Suna Besha (Golden Attire) ceremony of Lord Jagannath and the sibling deities is to be performed today. Millions of devotees expected to witness the divine spectacle as the deities will be adorned with exquisite gold ornaments on their majestic chariots at the Lion’s Gate of the Shree Jagannath Temple.

Observed on Ashadha Shukla Ekadashi, the Suna Besha is one of the most revered rituals of the annual Rath Yatra festival. During this grand occasion, the holy trinity ( Lord Jagannath, Lord Balabhadra, and Devi Subhadra)  appear in magnificent golden decorations on their respective chariots (Nandighosha, Taladhwaja, Darpadalana) captivating devotees with a breathtaking display of tradition, faith, and craftsmanship.

According to age-old temple customs, the responsibility of adorning the deities is entrusted to specific servitors. The Bhitarchha Mahapatra performs the Suna Besha decoration of Lord Jagannath, the Talichha Mahapatra adorns Lord Balabhadra, while the Pushpalak servitors carry out the decoration of Devi Subhadra.

The ceremonial dressing of the deities will begin as per the scheduled rituals from 5 PM and continue until 11 PM today, after which the golden ornaments will be removed following the completion of the divine darshan.

The grandeur of Suna Besha lies in the elaborate gold ornaments that transform the deities into a magnificent sight.

To ensure smooth and orderly darshan, special crowd management arrangements have been put in place. Barricades have been installed along the Grand Road (Bada Danda), starting from Market Square, as thousands of devotees are expected to gather.

Devotees will enter through the left side of the Bada Danda, proceed towards the chariots for darshan, and exit through the right side to maintain a smooth flow of movement.

As the golden glow of the ornaments illuminates the chariots and the chants of devotees fill the air, the Suna Besha once again stands as a symbol of Odisha’s rich spiritual heritage, timeless traditions, and the unwavering devotion of millions towards Lord Jagannath and the divine siblings.
