Cuttack, Dec 15: “The Congress may have expelled me, but I have not moved away from the Congress” — these were words from former MLA Mohammad Moquim after he was expelled from the Congress party.
The Congress party has expelled the senior Odisha leader from its primary membership, citing allegations of anti‑party activities. The action was taken after the All India Congress Committee (AICC) approved a proposal submitted by Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Bhakta Charan Das.
Following his expulsion, Moquim addressed the media and
offered a composed yet firm response. He stated that although the party had
removed him, he had not distanced himself from the Congress ideology.

“The Congress may have expelled me, but I have not moved away from the Congress. The Congress lives in my ideology and will continue to do so,” he said.
Moquim emphasized that being expelled from the party did not mean he was stepping away from public life or politics. He described himself as a “24‑hour social worker” who has always been involved in various public‑oriented initiatives. “Politics is a platform for me, not the end of my work,” he added.

The former MLA also said he accepted the expulsion order and believed that his earlier letter to the party leadership had sparked discussions at the national level.
According to him, the issues he raised had drawn attention, and he expressed hope that someone within the party would eventually take up those concerns and guide the organization forward.
Moquim further stated that he would consult his supporters and well‑wishers before deciding his next steps. “I will discuss with my supporters and admirers. After those discussions, I will take the next course of action,” he said, leaving open the possibility of future political moves.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that Mohammad Moquim may form his own regional political party instead of joining rival parties. How much these reports are true, only time will tell, and as Moquim said: his “political journey is far from over.”
The expulsion marks a significant moment in Odisha Congress
politics, especially at a time when the party is attempting to reorganize and
strengthen its internal structure.
