Key Points
Vijay’s TVK wins 108 seats in Tamil Nadu, ending DMK’s dominance. A viral film scene fuels speculation about his ambitions, as political realignments loom after his stunning debut.
Bhubaneswar, May 5: Actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay, aka Thalapathy Vijay, has made a dramatic entry into Tamil Nadu politics, with his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), securing 108 seats in the 234-member Assembly.

Released in the same year Vijay launched TVK, the film fuelled speculation about his political plans.
His co-star Premgi Amaren even made a bold prediction, declaring, “I will vote for him in 2026. I guarantee you that Vijay will become the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu in 2026. Wait and watch.”
That statement now resonates strongly with TVK’s electoral success.
Tamil Nadu Polls 2026 at a Glance
In the 2026 elections, Vijay contested and won from two constituencies — Trichy (East) and Perambur. Reports suggest he will retain Perambur while resigning from Trichy (East).
His party’s rise has also triggered talks of possible realignments, with smaller parties like Congress (five seats), CPI, CPI(M), and VCK (two seats each) being seen as potential players in shaping the next phase of Tamil Nadu politics.
While TVK has yet to secure a majority, its debut has
already altered the balance of power and set the stage for a new era in Tamil
Nadu politics.
