Bhubaneswar, Mar 1: Three people were detained in connection with the fatal stabbing of a 26-year-old man at a school playground in the GGP Colony area of Bhubaneswar, police said Sunday.
The deceased was identified as Rahul Maharana a YouTuber. Rahul also had a business of oxygen cylinders at Palasuni area. The incident took place at around 9.30pm on Saturday when two groups of youths were sitting at the playground.
According to Biswaranjan Senapati, Assistant Commissioner of Police (Zone 5), a man identified as Shiba was speaking loudly and using abusive language during a phone call near another group seated nearby. Members of the second group objected, leading to a verbal altercation.
“Shiba was assaulted by an Army jawan and his two nephews. When Rahul went there to intervene, he was stabbed in the chest with a sharp weapon by one of the nephews,” Senapati said.
Rahul sustained critical injuries and later died.
Police detained three accused - Sangram Keshari Behera, an Army jawan, and his two nephews, Samarendra Behera alias Munna and Sangram Behera alias Kuna. The Army personnel had come to Bhubaneswar from his posting in Jammu and Kashmir on leave, police said.
All three suspects hailed from Cuttack district and the jawan's family used to stay at a rented apartment in GGP Colony, the police informed.

Accused traced through vehicle details
Senapati said there were no CCTV cameras installed near the crime scene, and investigators relied on human intelligence and vehicle registration numbers.
“As there were no CCTV cameras near the spot, the police team depended on human intelligence. The registration numbers of two-wheelers left at the scene helped us trace the accused. All three were detained from outside Bhubaneswar,” he said.
A scientific team visited the scene and collected evidence. Police said bloodstains and footwear found at the playground indicated a scuffle had taken place.
“All angles, including any past enmity, are being investigated,” the ACP said.
Further legal action is underway.
