Sambalpur, Oct 25: Unable to cope with the emotional pain of mother's battle with cancer, a youth reportedly ended his life by jumping into the Burla power canal.

The deceased has been identified as Sourav Sambit Tripathi, a resident of Bolangir.

According to reports, the victim's mother was undergoing treatment for cancer at VIMSAR (Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research), Burla. Unable to cope with the emotional turmoil of her illness, the youth took the extreme step.

Upon being alerted, police along with the rescue team rushed to the scene and the victim's body was recovered after an extensive search operation.

Sources close to the family revealed that Sourav had been deeply affected by his mother’s deteriorating health condition.

Local police have registered a case and initiated further investigation.
