Crime in Odisha / Youth Arrested in Puri For Assaulting Woman, Minor Daughter

Puri, Nov 18: Kakatpur Police arrested a 20-year-old youth on charges of assault, harassment, and issuing life threats to a woman and her minor daughter in Odisha’s Puri district, police said on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Badal Nayak, a resident of Kakatpur area in Puri.

According to the FIR registered as Kakatpur PS Case No. 340 dated November 17, 2025, a 40 year-old woman of Kakatpur reported that an unknown person illegally entered her rented house early in the morning. The accused allegedly misbehaved with her and assaulted her minor daughter.
When the girl attempted to scream for help, the accused
reportedly gagged her mouth to silence her. He then locked the door from inside
and threatened both mother and daughter with dire consequences before fleeing
the scene.

Police Investigation
Following investigation, the accused was identified as Badal Nayak (20), son of Ajay Bihari Nayak of Hatasahi village under Kakatpur police station limits in Puri district. Police arrested him this morning and produced him before the court.
Legal Action
The case has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including 126(2), 333, 74, 75, 76, 115(2), 118(1), and 351(2). In addition, charges have been filed under Section 12 of the POCSO Act, 2012, which deals with sexual harassment of minors.
Police officials said that the investigation is ongoing and further evidence is being collected in connection with the case.
