Bhubaneswar, Nov 18: Odisha Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Tuesday reaffirmed the State government’s uncompromising stance against Bangladeshi infiltrators, stating that the identification process is already underway. He stressed that those found to be residing illegally will be tracked, closely monitored, and deported, with the state working in coordination with the central government to ensure strict enforcement of the measures.
Latest Crackdown
Recently, Odisha Police launched large-scale operations across Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, and Kendujhar districts. In Bhadrak, 17 suspected Bangladeshi nationals were detained near the bus stand after their movements raised suspicion. Officials revealed that the group had traveled from Murshidabad, West Bengal, and were intercepted during routine checks.
Meanwhile, in Jagatsinghpur, authorities demolished illegal houses allegedly built by suspected Bangladeshi migrants in Beherampur Basti (slum). The operation, carried out under the supervision of district officials, targeted structures linked to Sikandar Alam, who is accused of sheltering infiltrators and engaging them in labour activities.

Security Measures
The Law Minister stressed that Odisha’s coastal security has been strengthened, with police and Coast Guard units placed on high alert. Surveillance has been intensified in border and coastal districts to prevent further infiltration. The government’s approach, he said, is equally strict against infiltrators and extremists, ensuring that Odisha residents remain safe.
Moving Forward
Officials said that this is only the first phase of the crackdown, with further actions planned. The government has made it clear that infiltrators will not be allowed to settle illegally in the state, and deportation proceedings will follow due process.
