Bhubaneswar, Nov 27: President Droupadi Murmu on
Thursday envisioned a prosperous Odisha by 2036 that could play a pivotal role
in India’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.
Addressing the members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly in Bhubaneswar, she
urged legislators and stakeholders to work with the spirit of “Nation First” to
transform Odisha into a leading state, contributing significantly to India’s
growth story.
Nostalgia Experience
The President felt nostalgic while addressing the members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. She said that after many years, old memories of this place had re-surfaced. As a legislator, she had asked questions and as a Minister, she had answered legislators' questions in this house. She also noted how this House had shaped her public life.
Historical Significance
The President reflected on Odisha’s pivotal role in India’s freedom struggle and nation-building. She highlighted the transformation of Chandashoka into Dharmashoka as a symbol of moral leadership and praised the tribal communities of Odisha for their courage in resisting foreign rule.

✨Women’s Empowerment and Representation
Murmu emphasized Odisha’s long tradition of women’s
empowerment, noting that the Assembly has always had women’s representation
both before and after independence. She said women from Odisha have brought
pride to the nation through achievements in diverse fields.

Progress and Development
The President praised the Odisha Government’s initiatives in agriculture, education, health, housing, tribal welfare, and disaster management. She noted that industrialization in Odisha is taking shape through joint efforts of the Centre and State. Highlighting Odisha’s natural wealth—minerals, forests, water, and human resources—she said the state has immense potential to lead in agriculture, industry, and commerce.
Responsibility of Legislators
Murmu reminded MLAs of their duty as people’s representatives, entrusted with immense responsibility. She stressed that their words and conduct, both inside and outside the House, are closely followed by citizens. She urged them to ensure their actions inspire society and strengthen the state.
