Bhubaneswar, Mar 10: Odisha has been rocked by two disturbing incidents that have sparked outrage and grief among local communities. In Puri district’s Nimapada, a young man’s death under suspicious circumstances has triggered massive protests, while in Bargarh, a fatal stabbing has left residents shaken.
In Nimapada, villagers staged an unprecedented protest outside the local police station after the death of Subrat Bhoi from Dihabari area. According to reports, Subrat had been taken into custody in connection with a minor’s abduction case.
Hours later, his lifeless body was discovered hanging from a
tree in the village. Family members alleged that police torture drove him to
suicide, accusing authorities of wrongful treatment.

In response, hundreds of villagers placed his body in front of the police station gate and sat in protest, demanding justice and accountability. The situation escalated as the main gate of the station was locked, creating tension in the area.

The police officials, including the Nimapada SDPO, denied
the allegations, claiming the youth had not been brought to the station and
dismissing the family’s accusations as false.
Meanwhile, in Bargarh, a violent attack near the government bus stand claimed the life of Udayanath Suna from Pandripathar village. Onlookers found him critically injured with stab wounds and alerted police. He was rushed to the Bargarh Group Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead due to severe chest injuries and heavy blood loss.
Police recovered a knife from the scene and swiftly arrested
Shankar Suna of Bargarh town in connection with the crime. Investigations are
ongoing to determine the motive behind the attack.
