Cuttack/Bhubaneswar, Dec 31: Odisha Vigilance department today arrested Barang Additional Tehsildar Jitendra Kumar Panda on charges of possessing disproportionate assets.

According to reports, the arrest came after raids and investigations revealed assets allegedly far exceeding his known sources of income. The Vigilance team registered a case and took him into custody for further questioning.

Authorities stated that detailed verification of his movable and immovable properties is underway, and more revelations are expected as the investigation progresses.

Acting on allegations against the officer, the anti-corruption wing conducted raid at:

- Two triple-storeyed residential buildings in Bhubaneswar (Badagada area).

- One 2 BHK flat at Uttara, Bhubaneswar.

- One double-storeyed building at Sanapalla, Khordha.

- Four high-value plots, three in prime Bhubaneswar locations and one in Khordha town.

- Cash amounting to Rs 6.20 lakh and 100 grams of gold jewellery.

- A Kia Seltos car and four two-wheelers.

- One bank locker at SBI Bhubaneswar yet to be opened, along with deposits and investments under verification.

Panda had entered government service on November 10, 1995 as a Senior Laboratory Assistant in the Directorate of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services, Cuttack, with an initial monthly salary of Rs 2,000.

The arrest has sparked attention in the region, highlighting the ongoing crackdown on corruption and illegal accumulation of wealth by public servants.
