New Delhi, Jun 3: The Union Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Wednesday approved the construction of a new coastal highway from Rameshwar to Paradip in Odisha. The project will be executed under the Hybrid Annuity Model (HAM) in two packages, covering a total length of 160.18 km with a capital cost of Rs8,300.79 crore.
Project Details
The highway will pass through Khordha, Puri, Kendrapada, and Jagatsinghpur districts, enhancing connectivity across the region. Package‑1 will feature a 4‑lane stretch from Rameshwar to Konark, while Package‑2 will include a 2‑lane road with paved shoulders from Konark to Paradip. Designed for speeds up to 100 km/h, the project aims to improve travel efficiency and reduce congestion.

development.

Alignment with PM GatiShakti
In line with PM GatiShakti principles, the project will connect nine economic nodes and five logistic nodes, boosting regional mobility and strengthening India’s Logistic Performance Index (LPI).
