Bhubaneswar, June 13: The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has approved the empanelment of 33 senior Indian Police Service (IPS) officers for appointment to posts at the Director General (DG) and DG-equivalent level in the Central government, officials said on Saturday.
Among those empanelled are two senior officers from the Odisha cadre — Sudhansu Sarangi and Padmakar S. Ranipse. Their inclusion highlights Odisha’s representation in the top tier of national policing leadership.
Sudhansu Sarangi, a 1990-batch IPS officer, is currently serving as DG, Fire Services, Commandant General, Home Guards, and Director, Civil Defence, Odisha. He has earlier served as Commissioner of Police, Bhubaneswar-Cuttack, and held several key positions in the state police force, earning recognition for his leadership in law and order management.

✨Padmakar S. Ranipse, a 1995-batch IPS officer, has extensive
experience in central armed police forces. He served in the CRPF in key
operational and leadership roles and is presently on central deputation as
Additional Director General (ADG) of the Central Industrial Security Force
(CISF). His career reflects a strong background in internal security and
paramilitary operations.

Officials noted that the empanelment process was carried out after a detailed review of service records and professional performance. The officers selected for DG-level responsibilities are expected to take up leadership roles in central organisations such as paramilitary forces, national security agencies, and other DG-equivalent posts.
The ACC’s approval will be followed by formal postings in due course, with empanelled officers likely to be considered for key national assignments in the days ahead.
