Bhadrak, Apr 3: Two Class-10 students reportedly went missing from a school hostel in Bhadrak late at night, allegedly after complaining about extreme heat, non-functional fans and mosquito infestation.
Missing After Night Attendance
The incident was reported from Royal Residential High School at Aradi Chhak under Bhadrak rural police station limits. According to our source from the ground, hostel authorities conducted the routine headcount around 9:30 pm after dinner on Thursday, when the two students were found missing.
Families Informed, Police Complaint Filed
School authorities immediately informed the families and launched a search, but failed to trace them. A formal complaint was later lodged at the police station on Friday morning, following which an investigation was initiated.
The missing students were identified as Sourabh Kumar Nath and Sk Dayabhar Rehman. Till the time of filing this report, their whereabouts remained unknown.

“Fan Was Not Working, Heat Was Unbearable”: Mother
Sourabh’s mother, Jyotsnarani Nath, said, “My son had come to the hostel just two days ago. He called me on Wednesday and said the fan was not working properly. The heat was unbearable and there were too many mosquitoes. On Thursday night, around 11:30 pm, we received a call that he had left the hostel.”
No Boundary Wall, No Security Guard
A teacher of the school, Abhimanyu Das, said, “We came to know during the night headcount that two students were missing. We immediately started searching but could not find them, after which we lodged a police complaint.”
He further admitted serious security lapses, stating that “there is no boundary wall around the hostel and no security guard is deployed,” raising concerns over student safety.
Police reached the hostel and began an inquiry, while search efforts are underway to trace the missing students.
