Bhubaneswar, Apr 28: Police arrested two accused in separate rape cases under Infocity and Bharatpur police station limits in Bhubaneswar, sources said.

In the first incident, Infocity police arrested a 26-year-old Shubhajit Pradhan in connection with a rape case registered in 2023.

According to a source, the accused had come in contact with a 23-year-old woman from the Infocity area three years ago.

On May 19, 2023, the man went to meet the woman to celebrate the latter's birthday. After celebrating the birthday party, the accused allegedly took her to an OYO accommodation and he forced himself on her. When she resisted, he allegedly assured her of marriage and continued meeting her, the source said.

However, the man refused to marry the woman later. Afterwards, the victim lodged an FIR at the Infocity police station.

Based on the FIR, police have now arrested the accused.

Man Arrested For Raping Minor
In a separate case, Bharatpur police arrested Deep Dalai, a resident of Mahadeipur village under Balichandrapur police station in Jajpur district, for kidnapping and raping a minor girl.

According to the source, the accused -- a painter by profession -- had been absconding for over five months after committing the crime.

On November 2, last year, the accused allegedly kidnapped the minor while she was studying and took her to his native village, where he kept her confined.

Following a complaint by the victim's family, police launched an investigation and later arrested him under the relevant sources of rape, along with the POSCO Act.

Following the arrest, police produced the accused before the court.
