Bhubaneswar, Sep 20: The Odisha government has approved the construction of a second bridge at Trisulia to reduce traffic congestion between the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. The project, aimed at streamlining daily commutes, has received administrative clearance following the submission of a Detailed Project Report (DPR).

Responding to a starred question from MLA Sofia Firdous in the Legislative Assembly, Public Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan confirmed that the Odisha Bridge and Construction Corporation (OBCC) has initiated the tendering process for the bridge. The estimated cost of the project stands at ₹297.59 crore, and the government has set a target to complete construction within 36 months of commencement.

“The DPR has been approved, and the tender process is currently underway,” Harichandan stated. “Once finalised, construction will begin immediately.”

The second bridge is expected to significantly reduce traffic pressure and travel time between Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. It will complement the existing Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose Setu, a 2.88 km bridge inaugurated in July 2017, which was built at a cost of ₹114 crore over six years.

Officials hope the new infrastructure will bring much-needed relief to commuters and enhance regional connectivity.
