Bhubaneswar, Feb 17: In a rare feat, twin brothers Mahroof Ahmed Khan and Masroor Ahmed Khan from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, have secured identical scores in the JEE-Main 2026 Session 1 examination. Both scored 285 out of 300 in the engineering entrance test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA), officials said on Tuesday.

Preparation in Kota

The brothers prepared for the examination in Kota, Rajasthan, known as the hub of engineering coaching. Mahroof said his journey was “smooth sailing” with the guidance of teachers. “I just did whatever the teachers told me to do and followed up. I’ve been preparing for JEE on my own for five years,” he noted. Masroor, however, admitted to facing difficulties due to “silly mistakes” but credited his teachers, parents, and coaching institute Allen for his success. He emphasised the importance of NCERT books in JEE preparation.

NTA Results

On February 16, NTA declared the JEE-Main 2026 Session 1 Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech.) results. Twelve candidates secured a perfect 100 NTA score (percentile). The exam recorded an overall attendance of 96.26 per cent and was conducted in computer-based mode across 658 centres in 326 cities, including 15 outside India, in 13 languages.

Family Support

The brothers attribute their success to their mother, Dr. Zeenat Begum, a gynaecologist who left her government job three years ago to support their preparation in Kota. “Her sacrifice and constant encouragement helped us perform better,” they said. Both brothers studied in the same school, with Mahroof scoring 95.2 per cent and Masroor 97.2 per cent in Class 10.
