Berhampur, Mar 19: Three persons were killed in a head-on collision between a ‘LAccMI’ bus and a motorcycle near Patapalli Chhak under Sorada police station limits in Odisha's Ganjam district, our source from the ground informed Thursday.
The deceased were identified as Silu Gouda, Tilu Gouda and Shankar Gouda, all residents of Maniakati village.
Accident While Returning Home
According to initial reports, the three victims were travelling on a Bullet motorcycle from Sorada towards their native village after finishing work. At the same time, the ‘LAccMI’ bus was approaching from the opposite direction towards Sorada when the two vehicles collided head-on at Patapalli Chhak.
All three riders died on the spot due to the impact.
Emergency Response and Confirmation
Upon receiving information, 108 ambulance services, local police and fire personnel rushed to the scene and shifted the victims to the Sorada Community Health Centre, where doctors declared them dead.
Police have initiated an investigation into the incident to ascertain the exact cause of the accident.
Accidents On The Rise
The mishap took place at a time when Odisha reported alarming statistics about road mishaps, with 1,616 accidents occurring this year until March 6, according to data presented in the State Assembly.
Since the beginning of 2026 till March 6, the state has recorded 1,616 accidents, resulting in 1,025 deaths and 1,594 injuries.
Breaking down the figures by road type, 447 accidents occurred on National Highways, claiming 270 lives and injuring 469 people.

On State Highways, 246 accidents led to 150 deaths and 259 injuries. Other roads across the state witnessed 910 accidents, with 594 fatalities and 856 injuries. Expressways recorded 13 accidents, causing 11 deaths and 10 injuries.
