Bhubaneswar, Dec 17: A disturbing incident from Bhubaneswar has brought attention to the challenges faced by tenants during disputes with landlords.
On a cold winter night near Damana square, a tenant family was forced to spend the entire night outside their rented house after the landlord allegedly removed their belongings and locked the house in their absence.
The incident took place near Badri Garden Apartments, where
the family had been living on rent with his wife and elderly mother.
According to reports, Soumyajit had stepped out for his job when the landlord
allegedly entered the house, removed all household items, and locked the
premises.

For several days, the head of the family and the landlord had been engaged in a dispute over rent and the terms of vacating the house. The matter had even reached Chandrasekharpur police station, where both parties were advised that the tenant should vacate the house by the end of the month.

However, the tenant claims that despite this understanding, the landlord took unilateral action during his absence.
With no access to their home and no immediate shelter, the man, his wife, and his elderly mother were forced to sit outside the house throughout the night in the cold. Neighbours reportedly witnessed the family’s distress but were unable to intervene due to the ongoing dispute.
Police sources confirmed that the matter had been brought to
their attention earlier, but the latest incident is now being examined for
possible legal action. As of now, the landlord has not provided any response
regarding the allegations.
