Bhubaneswar, Apr 10: Temperatures are expected to rise significantly across Odisha, according to the Indian Meteorological Department's regional Centre.

According to the weather department, several districts are likely to experience Kalbaishakhi (Nor’wester) showers accompanied by lightning and strong winds blowing at speeds of 30–40 km/h in the next 24 hours. A yellow alert has been issued for 11 districts, including Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Jajpur, Bhadrak, and Balasore.

However, the rainfall activity will decrease afterwards, added the weather department.

Following this, temperatures are expected to rise significantly, with Bhubaneswar likely to touch 38°C and western Odisha districts reaching 40°C. By April 11, Jharsuguda may record 41°C, while most parts of the state will experience dry and hot conditions, it added.

From April 12 onwards, coastal Odisha is expected to face intense heat and humidity, leading to discomfort across districts such as Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khordha, Puri, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati. A yellow alert has been issued for these regions due to the anticipated heatwave-like conditions.

Meteorologists predict that temperatures across the state may rise by 4–6°C over the next three days, intensifying the heatwave.

Residents are advised to take precautions against heat stress and remain alert to sudden thunderstorms in coastal and adjoining districts.
