Teachers’ Day: Odisha CM Urges Students to Focus on Studies, Avoid Social Media Distractions

Cuttack, Sept 5: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Saturday, addressing students at the Teachers’ Day celebrations at Secondary Board High School in Cuttack, urged them not to waste time on social media or fall prey to misinformation. He advised children to dedicate themselves wholeheartedly to studies and career-building.

Free Education from KG to PG

Highlighting the State government’s reforms, CM Majhi announced that Odisha has become the first state in India to provide free education from kindergarten to postgraduate level. He reiterated the government’s commitment to fill 45,000 vacant teaching posts within the next three years.

The Chief Minister also outlined ongoing initiatives, including the construction of 2,200 world-class Godabarish Mishra Model Primary Schools at a cost of Rs12,000 crore, the opening of 45,000 childcare centres, and provision of midday meals and textbooks for Class IX and X students. Special schemes for tribal children, such as the Shahid Madho Singh stipend programme, were also highlighted.

Guru-Shishya Tradition

CM Majhi paid homage to former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan on his birth anniversary, recalling India’s rich guru-shishya tradition. He cited examples from Lord Rama and Krishna to Swami Vivekananda, emphasising the decisive role of teachers in shaping great personalities. He also noted that Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, despite being India’s President, proudly identified himself first as a teacher.

Panchasakha Shiksha Setu

The Chief Minister praised the role of alumni in school transformation through the Panchasakha Shiksha Setu initiative, which connects past students with current institutional development. He said such collaboration would help build a strong, self-reliant Odisha.

Honouring Teachers

On the occasion, dedicated educators including Ashok Kumar Satapathy, Kumudini Jena, Shakuntala Mohanty, Daitari Sahu, and Jayanti Majhi were felicitated for their service. Majhi said their contribution exemplifies the true spirit of teaching and inspires future generations.

MLAs Sarada Prasad Pradhan, Prakash Chandra Sethi, Souvik Biswal, Devi Ranjan Tripathy, senior officials including Commissioner Dr. N. Tirumala Nayak, Cuttack Collector Dattatraya Bhausaheb Shinde, and alumni representatives were present on the occasion.
