Paradip/Jagatsinghpur, Feb 25: The investigation into the death of a young woman in Paradip has intensified, with police uncovering evidence that suggests she may have been sexually assaulted before being murdered.

Reportedly, the woman’s body was recovered two days ago from beneath a four-storey residential building in the Tarinigada area.

While initially a case of unnatural death was registered, later, the investigation gained momentum after police examined CCTV footage from nearby areas.

According to police sources, the woman along with a male friend had visited the Sarala Temple on the evening of the incident. However, after some minor argument the victim reportedly chose not to accompany him and was later seen standing along the Cuttack-Paradip road.

Investigations have revealed that the deceased hailed from the Kolar area under Tirtol police station limits.

Jagatsinghpur SP stated that preliminary evidence suggests the accused lured the woman by offering a lift to Paradip, consumed alcohol, and allegedly committed sexual assault before pushing her from the rooftop. The SP emphasised that the final conclusion will depend on the post‑mortem report and further investigation.

Family members have also identified the body at Paradip Port Hospital.

According to her family, the woman left home on Saturday morning, saying she was going to Sarala temple. When she did not return, they lodged a missing complaint at Tirtol police station. Later, police traced her mobile phone and informed the family. CCTV footage from the building has provided vital clues, though officials say it is too early to confirm whether the case is one of murder or suicide.
