Rajnagar, Oct 4: The mysterious death case of Subhashree Das from Kendrapara’s Rajnagar has taken a new twist, deepening the enigma surrounding her disappearance.

Even as police continue their search, the family has reportedly performed purification and funeral rituals — despite the body not being recovered.

According to reports, Subhashree’s 80‑year‑old grandfather, Shukadev Das, had lodged a missing complaint at Rajnagar police station after she went missing.

Strangely, within days of filing the report, the family conducted the seventh‑day purification rites and dashaha rituals, claiming she was dead. A local priest stated that the family told him the body had been found and immersed in the river, prompting the ceremonies.

The development has raised serious questions: if the body was never recovered, why did the family proceed with the rituals? Police silence on the matter has only added to the mystery.

Earlier, eyewitnesses claimed to have seen Subhashree’s body floating in the Hansua River near Garjanpur village. However, they alleged that some known individuals tied the body with stones and submerged it again, possibly to conceal evidence.

Despite extensive search operations by police and fire services, no trace of the body was found.

Police have questioned eight people, including family members, but released them after initial interrogation. Meanwhile, social media has been flooded with an image purportedly showing Subhashree’s body, though authorities have not verified its authenticity.

Whether Subhashree’s death was a murder or suicide remains unclear, and the family’s role in the incident is now under scrutiny. The case continues to grow more complex as investigators attempt to unravel the truth behind the disappearance and the premature funeral rites.
