Puri, Jan 8: The Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has announced a hike in parking fees at four temple-run Bhakta Nivas (devotee lodges) in Puri, effective immediately until further orders.
As per the new directive, devotees parking their four-wheelers at these lodges for 24 hours will now have to pay Rs 500, along with an additional 18% GST. This means the total payable amount will exceed Rs 590 per vehicle per day.
The order was issued by Chief Administrator, who confirmed the revised fee structure. However, questions have been raised as the decision was reportedly not discussed in the temple’s management committee meeting, sparking debate over the process of implementation.

Local devotees and traders expressed concern that the sudden
hike may burden pilgrims, especially during peak festival seasons when
thousands visit Puri. Some have urged the administration to reconsider the
decision or provide clarity on how the additional revenue will be utilised.
