Balasore, Apr 15: At least seven persons sustained injuries after a passenger bus collided with a truck carrying fish near Jamu Jhari Square on National Highway 16 under Simulia Police Station limits.

According to reports, the bus, named as Shantilata, was enroute to Tata from Puri when the vehicle failed to control itself while overtaking, leading to the collision with the truck.

At least 42 passengers were on board at the time of the accident. The impact left the bus driver, Ajgar Alam, and six passengers injured. Among them, four sustained critical injuries.

Local residents immediately rushed to the scene, and rescued the victims. Later, on being informed, police and ambulances reached the spot and transported the injured to Simulia Health Centre for urgent medical care.

While the exact cause behind the accident was not known immediately, preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding may have been a contributing factor.

Authorities are also examining whether negligence on the part of either driver played a role. The accident caused panic among the passengers, though most escaped without major harm.

Traffic on the busy highway was disrupted for some time before normalcy was restored.
