Sambalpur, May 9: Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday attended the annual function of Sewa Bharati in Sambalpur and said that Sewa Bharati was not merely the name of an organisation, but a unique symbol of selfless service to humanity.

Addressing the gathering, Pradhan said the organisation’s dedicated work in every sector, including education, healthcare, social reform and disaster management, was highly commendable.

“Guided by the principle that ‘service itself is worship’, Sewa Bharati’s dedicated contribution in the fields of education, healthcare, social reform and disaster management is truly praiseworthy. The organisation’s resolve to bring smiles to the faces of neglected and deprived people is genuinely inspirational,” he said.

The Union Minister further said people should not show pity or sympathy towards others, but instead perform their own responsibilities towards society.

“We should not show mercy or sympathy towards anyone. We should fulfil our own duties. Duty itself is the culture of our society,” Pradhan stated.

Highlighting the organisation’s grassroots engagement, he said Sewa Bharati had consistently remained connected with society by working according to local issues and requirements. Through social self-reliance initiatives, traditional community programmes and drinking water arrangements, the organisation had successfully fostered social bonding and collective harmony among people, he added.

Pradhan noted that the ambulance service provided by the district administration during the programme would further strengthen healthcare services in the region. He said every section of society should jointly take responsibility along with Sewa Bharati in activities such as goshalas and medical camps being conducted in the area.

Raising concerns over children’s health and nutrition in present times, the Union Minister said building a healthy and educated future generation was a collective responsibility of society.

He also appealed for extensive plantation drives and complete avoidance of single-use plastic to tackle rising temperatures and environmental concerns.

“When we begin to accept society as our own family, only then can we build a healthy and well-organised society,” he said.

Pradhan further lauded Sewa Bharati for continuing its service-oriented activities by taking every section of society along in its initiatives.

Odisha Panchayati Raj, Rural Development and Drinking Water Minister Rabi Narayan Naik, Sambalpur MLA Jayanarayan Mishra and several eminent personalities were present at the annual function.
