Burla, May 8: A scooter rider sustained serious injuries after being hit by an 'Ama Bus' near the PC Bridge area in Sambalpur's Burla on Friday, a source said.
The injured person was identified as Surendra Mahananda. He was critically injured in the accident and admitted to VIMSAR for treatment.
Following the incident, Burla Police detained the Ama Bus driver and launched an investigation into the accident.
Over 10 Injured After Hyva Hits Passenger
More than 10 passengers were injured after an iron ore-laden Hyva truck rammed into a passenger bus from behind at Masinabila Chhak near Ghatgaon in Odisha's Keonjhar district late on Thursday night.
According to the source, the incident took place at around 11:45pm when the passenger bus, named Maa Padmabati Bus, was travelling from Bahalda to Bhubaneswar.
Police said the Hyva truck carrying iron ore hit the bus from the rear, causing the vehicle to overturn nearly three times before landing on the road. The impact of the collision was so severe that the bus crossed the divider from the left side of the highway and overturned on the opposite side of the road.
More than 10 passengers sustained injuries in the mishap, while the condition of three passengers is stated to be critical.

Teams from NHAI ambulance services, Ghatgaon Police and the fire services jointly carried out the rescue operation and shifted the injured passengers to a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Hyva driver reportedly fled the spot after the accident. Police seized both the damaged vehicles and launched a detailed investigation into the incident.
