Bhadrak, May 8: One person was killed and eight others sustained critical injuries after a Mahindra Bolero vehicle rammed into the rear of a stationary truck near Trisalpur Chhak on National Highway-16 in Odisha's Bhadrak district, a source said Friday.
All the injured persons were admitted to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital for treatment.
According to the source, the victims belonged to the same family from the Eram area and were returning home after offering prayers to Lord Jagannath in Puri.
The deceased was identified as Amarnath Padhi.
The source said Amarnath Padhi and his family members had travelled to Puri for darshan. While returning to Eram, the Bolero driver allegedly dozed off, causing the vehicle to crash into the rear of a truck parked on the roadside near Trisalpur Chhak.
The impact of the collision was severe, resulting in the death of Amarnath Padhi, who was seated in the front of the vehicle. The remaining family members sustained serious injuries.
On being informed, Bhadrak Rural Police reached the spot, rescued the injured persons and shifted them to the Bhadrak District Headquarters Hospital.
Police detained the Bolero driver and launched an investigation into the incident.

Trailer Smashes Through Gate
In another horrifying incident, a trailer rammed into a house early morning on Friday in the Ghadual area under Nayagarh Town police station limits. According to the source, the trailer entered the residence of Judhisthir Khanda after crashing through the gate and shutter, also damaging a car parked inside the premises.

The incident took place at around 3:30 am on Friday on National Highway-57 when a Hyva truck allegedly hit a stationary trailer from behind. The impact pushed the trailer off the road and into the house. The Hyva driver sustained injuries and is undergoing treatment at the Nayagarh District Headquarters Hospital. Police reached the spot, seized both the trailer and the Hyva truck, and detained the two drivers for questioning.
