Puri, Jan 3: The sacred festival of Paush Purnima is being celebrated today at the Jagannath Temple in Puri with the grand Debabhisheka ritual.
On this auspicious occasion, the Lord will appear in the majestic Rajadhiraja or Sunabesha, adorned with gold and gem-studded ornaments, to bless thousands of devotees.
As part of the rituals, 108 pots of water mixed with ghee, sanctified during the Adhibasa ceremony, will be used for the ceremonial bathing of the deity. Following the morning puja, Lord Jagannath will be decorated with a golden crown, divine arms, golden footwear, and garlands of harida, bahada, and sevati flowers.

The Sunabesha ritual, performed four times a year on the
Ratna Simhasana, is considered one of the most revered traditions of the
temple. Today’s attire is especially significant as it coincides with Paush
Purnima, a day linked to Lord Rama’s coronation in Ayodhya after his 14-year
exile.

Pushyabhisheka, one of the twelve major festivals of Lord Jagannath, draws countless devotees to the temple, eager to witness the rare and divine form of the Lord. The temple authorities have made elaborate arrangements to ensure smooth darshan for the devotees.
