Puri, Jan 6: The district administration has officially lifted restrictions on boat operations at Chilika Lake, allowing tourism activities to resume with renewed emphasis on safety.

Officials clarified that future decisions regarding boat services will depend on prevailing weather conditions, particularly fog, which often reduces visibility and poses risks to passengers.

Boat operators have been directed to prioritise the safety of tourists and local travellers.

As part of the guidelines, life jackets have been made mandatory and must be provided to every passenger before boarding.

The administration stressed that compliance with these measures is non‑negotiable, as passenger security remains the foremost concern.

To ensure smooth coordination, Puri District Collector has written to multiple departments, including the Superintendent of Police (SP), urging joint efforts to monitor safety standards and enforce the rules. The move highlights the administration’s commitment to balancing tourism promotion with public safety.
