Student Protest / Rayagada Students Protest After NCC Officials Illegally Enter Girls' Hostel

Key Points
Rayagada, Oct 3: Tension prevailed at Model Degree College in Rayagada after female students staged a protest alleging unauthorized entry by National Cadet Corps (NCC) officials into the girls' hostel premises during the college vacation period, officials said on Saturday.
According to the protesting students, two NCC officials entered the residential section of the hostel without prior permission or notification. The students alleged that the officials entered their living quarters without knocking, causing distress and raising concerns over privacy and safety.
The situation escalated when some students questioned the entry. They claimed that the officials subsequently locked the doors of the hostel's third floor and asserted that the premises belonged to the NCC. The hostel campus has traditionally been used for an annual NCC training camp, which has been conducted there for couple of years.
Demanding accountability, a large number of students
launched a dharna on the campus, seeking immediate action against those
involved and restoration of complete administrative control of the hostel to
the college authorities. The protesters argued that any activity within the
residential area should be conducted only with prior approval from hostel
authorities.

✨Following the protest, college authorities held preliminary discussions with student representatives and assured them that the matter would be examined. Officials reportedly appealed to students to maintain peace while an inquiry into the allegations is undertaken. The protest continued peacefully as students awaited a formal response from the administration.
The incident comes amid strict hostel security norms introduced by the Department of Higher Education, which prohibit unauthorized entry into residential spaces and emphasize student safety and oversight.
