Puri, Aug 22: A 44-year-old woman devotee from Rajasthan died after she suddenly fell ill while performing parikrama following darshan of Lord Jagannath at Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri, a source said on Saturday.
The deceased was identified as Varsha Gupta, a resident of Alwar in Rajasthan.
Varsha had arrived in Puri with her family on Friday and visited the Shree Jagannath Temple on Saturday morning for darshan. After offering prayers, she was performing parikrama around the temple when she suddenly became unwell, her family said.
Her relatives immediately rushed her to a hospital in Puri, where doctors declared her dead while she was undergoing treatment.
Family Mourns Sudden Loss
According to family members, Varsha had travelled to Puri with them a day earlier and was in the temple for darshan when the incident occurred.
The sudden death of the devotee after her visit to the shrine has left her family grieving.

Ganjam Man Dies At Crematorium
Meanwhile, a tragic incident was reported at a crematorium in Ganjam district’s Beguniapada block, where a man who had gone to attend a cremation died after reportedly suffering a suspected heart attack.
The deceased was identified as Karunakar Sahu of Kaniaribadi village under Burujhari panchayat.
According to the source, Manas Pandi, son of Balia Pandi from Bhaliajhara village under Sumandala panchayat, died on Saturday morning. His body was taken to the village crematorium for the last rites. Karunakar, a friend of Manas, had also gone to the crematorium to attend the funeral.
During the cremation, he suddenly collapsed after suffering a heart attack. He was immediately rushed to the Sumandal medical facility, where doctors declared him dead.
Karunakar is survived by a daughter and a son. Meanwhile, Manas was working as a supplier at a gas agency in Sumandal. The deaths of the two men have cast a pall of gloom over the area.
