Bhubaneswar, May 4: The Indian Meteorological Department's (IMD) regional centre has sounded orange alert of heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, and strong winds across Odisha for the next four days.

According to the weather department, nearly all districts are expected to receive rainfall within the next 24 hours. At least 13 districts - Koraput, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nabarangpur, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapara, Jajpur, Bhadrak, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Sundargarh — have been placed under an orange warning for thunderstorms accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 50–60 km/h.

In addition, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Balasore, and Rayagada districts face heightened risk of hailstorms, prompting authorities to issue a separate orange warning.

Following this, the IMD has advised fishermen against venturing into the sea between May 3 and May 5.

Meanwhile, weather data from the past 24 hours shows Boudh recording the highest temperature at 41.6°C. Rainfall was reported in 13 districts, with Chilika registering the highest at 60 mm.

Officials have urged residents to remain cautious, avoid unnecessary travel during severe weather, and follow safety advisories. With the likelihood of heavy rain and thunderstorms, preparedness measures are being emphasized to minimize risks to life and property.
