Bhubaneswar, Dec 26: Odisha might welcome the New Year with rainfall, as a low pressure area is likely to form over the Bay of Bengal in the next week.

According to latest update by the IMD, a low‑pressure system has been persisting over the Bay for more than a week.

Experts indicate that this system may gradually intensify and take the shape of a cyclonic storm around December 31, potentially influencing weather conditions across coastal and interior districts of Odisha.

While the exact trajectory and intensity of the possible cyclone are yet to be determined, authorities have advised close monitoring of updates from the India Meteorological Department.

Fishermen have been cautioned against venturing into deep sea areas during this period.

Meanwhile, dense fog was reported across several regions of the state today, disrupting visibility and affecting morning commuters.
