Bhubaneswar, Sep 12: Odisha is likely to remain under the spell of rain till September 17, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting rainfall, thunderstorms and gusty winds across several parts of the state over the next five days.
The weather conditions are being influenced by a low-pressure area that was formed over the west and west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Odisha-Andhra Pradesh coast and is now active over south Chhattisgarh and neighbouring areas. An associated cyclonic circulation extends up to 1.5 km above mean sea level and tilts southwestwards.
Rain Activity To Continue Till Sept 17
The IMD has forecast rainfall activity across Odisha during the coming days, with heavy rainfall likely at isolated places on different days.
For September 12, heavy rainfall is likely at one or two places in Nabarangpur, Koraput, Kalahandi, Malkangiri, Balangir, Nuapada and Baragada districts, for which a yellow warning has been issued.

Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 40-50 kmph are also likely in several other parts of the state.
Thunderstorm Alert For 13 Districts
For September 13, a yellow warning has been issued for Baleshwar, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kataka, Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Gajapati, Ganjam, Puri, Khordha and Nayagada districts.
Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty surface winds reaching 30-40 kmph are very likely at one or two places in these districts.
On September 14, similar conditions are forecast in Kendujhar, Mayurbhanj, Rayagada, Koraput and Gajapati districts.
Heavy Rain Forecast On Sept 15-17
The IMD has forecast isolated heavy rainfall in Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts on September 15.
On September 16, Jajpur, Kendujhar and Mayurbhanj districts are likely to receive heavy rainfall at one or two places.
The rainfall activity is expected to continue through September 17, with heavy rain forecast in parts of Odisha during the period.

Chitrakonda Records 192mm Rain
During the past 24 hours, rainfall was recorded across all districts, with light to moderate rain at many places. Very heavy rainfall was recorded at four places, while heavy rainfall was reported in 12 districts. Gajapati recorded deficient rainfall.
Chitrakonda in Malkangiri district recorded the highest rainfall at 192 mm.
From June 1 to date, Odisha has recorded 1,255.4 mm of rainfall against the normal 1,028.2 mm, making the cumulative rainfall 22 per cent above normal.
