Koraput, Sep 29: Koraput has been affected by incessant rain for more than four days, disrupting rail connectivity between Koraput and Jagdalpur. Several passenger and freight trains have been cancelled after rainfall and landslides have affected the railway line, leaving passengers stranded at stations, a source said on Tuesday.
The disruption has also affected businesses in the region. Traders who used to travel by rail to Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh to purchase goods and transport them back by train are now having to use alternative modes of transportation at higher costs.
Passengers are also facing difficulties as road and air travel options are proving more expensive. Travellers said they would be relieved if rail services were restored soon.
Railway Restoration Work Underway
Restoration work on the affected railway line is being carried out at a rapid pace. The railway authorities have also arranged free vehicle services for passengers travelling between Koraput and Jagdalpur, for which passengers have expressed their appreciation.
Speaking about the restoration work, East Coast Railway General Manager Parameswar Funkwal said, "Repair and restoration work on the railway line is progressing rapidly. Train services will be restored to normal soon."

He said repair work was continuing despite challenges caused by rain and landslides, with efforts underway to repair the damaged railway line and restore train services.

Funkwal said locations where landslides had occurred in previous years had been identified and permanent measures had been taken at those places.
He said continuous surveys were also being conducted and some new vulnerable locations had been identified.
"Permanent solutions will also be worked out at those locations so that train services are not repeatedly disrupted in the future," he said.
