Puri, Feb 25: To enhance tourist safety, the Puri Municipality has introduced a baggage locker system at the sea beach to safeguard visitors’ belongings.
Visitors will no longer have to worry about theft while leaving their bags unattended during a bath at the beach.
According to reports, two locker facilities have been installed on a trial basis — one near Victoria Hotel and another at Digbareni Khunti Square.
Operated through a ticketing system, the lockers can be accessed by scanning a QR code, enabling location services, and entering necessary details. Payment must be made online, after which the locker door opens automatically. Tourists can then store their belongings such as bags, shoes, and mobile phones, and lock the unit again using their mobile device.
Each unit contain 27 lockers of varying sizes — small, medium, large, and extra‑large. The largest locker can accommodate up to 8–10 bags, with charges fixed at Rs 118 per hour. Smaller lockers are available at lower rates, ranging from Rs 18.88 to Rs 69.62 per hour.

Municipal Executive Officer Abhimanyu Behera stated that the initiative, launched today, is expected to be widely used by tourists. He emphasized that the system will provide a secure and convenient way for visitors to enjoy Puri’s beach without worrying about theft.
