Puri, Jan 1: The Jagannath Temple in Puri witnessed a massive influx of devotees on the first day of the New Year, as thousands thronged the shrine to seek blessings of Lord Jagannath.
Temple authorities reported that the Singhadwara (Lion Gate) was opened earlier than the scheduled time to accommodate the swelling crowd. Devotees were able to enter smoothly and participate in the rituals.
The pahuda ritual, marking the rest of the deities, was
performed at 10:25 p.m. Following the completion of the rituals, the
Singhadwara was opened at 1:33 a.m. The sequence of events reflected the
temple’s strict adherence to tradition while also managing the large turnout of
pilgrims.
