Rairangpur, Jun 19: President Droupadi Murmu on Friday began her two-day visit to Odisha by inaugurating five projects in her hometown Rairangpur in istrict, underscoring the government’s focus on healthcare, drinking water, and public infrastructure in tribal and mining-affected regions.
President Murmu’s arrival in Mayurbhanj district was delayed
due to adverse weather conditions, forcing a change in travel plans. Originally
scheduled to land at Dandbose Airstrip, the President travelled by road from
Kalaikunda Airbase in West Bengal, covering over 100 km before reaching
Rairangpur.

At Rairangpur, President Murmu launched a mega integrated rural piped water supply project to provide safe drinking water to 113 mining-affected villages in Kusumi block. She also inaugurated a health camp organised by AIIMS Bhubaneswar, the Brahma Kumaris’ Matrushakti Bhavan, a new Special Circuit House, and the newly-created Rairangpur Police District.

✨The projects are expected to strengthen civic amenities and
improve the quality of life in tribal and rural regions. Officials said the
initiatives reflect the Centre’s commitment to grassroots development,
particularly in mining-affected areas.

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will join President Murmu in Mayurbhanj. The two leaders are scheduled to address a massive public gathering at Rairangpur to mark the completion of two years of the BJP Government in Odisha. Together, they will inaugurate and lay foundation stones for development projects worth over Rs47,600 crore, spanning energy, industrial infrastructure, road connectivity, drinking water, health, education, tourism, and irrigation.
For President Murmu, the visit carries personal significance as it coincides with her return to her native district, reinforcing her deep connection with the people of Mayurbhanj. The joint programme with PM Modi is expected to highlight Odisha’s growing role in India’s development roadmap.
