Bhubaneswar, Jan 4: In a major crackdown on corruption, Odisha Vigilance today apprehended Bijaya Kumar Barik, Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) of CRRI Police Station while he was allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 40,000 from a licensed liquor vendor.

According to reports, the trap was laid at Rajmahal Chhak, Bhubaneswar, where the officer was caught red-handed demanding and receiving the illegal gratification to allow the vendor’s business to run smoothly.

Vigilance officials immediately recovered the entire tainted amount from Barik’s possession and seized it as evidence.

Following the arrest, simultaneous searches are being conducted at two locations linked to the accused to investigate disproportionate assets (DA) angle.

A case has been registered against Barik under Cell Division PS Case No. 1/2026, U/s 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.

Odisha Vigilance confirmed that further investigation is underway and a detailed report will follow.

This operation underscores the state’s continuing efforts to curb corruption and ensure accountability within the police force.
