Berhampur, Oct 16: The mystery surrounding the murder of BJP leader Pitabash Panda is beginning to unravel as Berhampur police intensify their investigation.

Following the shocking point-blank shooting on October 6 near his residence in Baikunthanagar, police have identified key suspects and detained several individuals, including a sharpshooter allegedly hired from Bihar.

Sources reveal that the sharpshooter, now in police custody, was brought in from outside Odisha, while another suspect involved in reconnaissance was also apprehended. The attack, which took place just 100 meters from Panda’s home, was carried out by two assailants on a motorcycle — one riding and the other firing from the pillion seat.

Berhampur police have expanded their probe across multiple states including Bihar, Delhi, Kolkata, and Andhra Pradesh. Investigators suspect the involvement of a professional criminal network, with local operatives aiding the execution. In a significant development, police have interrogated a close associate of Panda and a local businessman, both of whom are under scrutiny for possible links to the conspiracy. Authorities believe the mastermind behind the killing is within reach, and once apprehended, the full motive and orchestration of the crime will be revealed.
