Padampur, Jan 12: A sand-laden heavy vehicle collided with the official vehicle of the Padampur Sub-Collector on Monday, a source said.
The officer, identified as Sneha Arugula, escaped unhurt in the incident.
The accident occurred under circumstances that are currently under investigation. The source said the truck involved in the collision has been seized by Jagadalpur police, and further inquiry is underway to ascertain how the crash took place.

According to data presented in the Odisha Assembly on November 28, the state recorded 27,167 road accident deaths over the last five years, with an average of 5,433 fatalities annually. During the same period, 50,041 people were injured.
Commerce and Transport Minister Bibhuti Bhushan Jena had informed the Assembly that Odisha reported 56,830 road accidents between 2020 and 2024. Except for 2020 — when pandemic-related restrictions brought down fatalities to 4,738 — annual road accident deaths have consistently crossed the 5,000 mark.

Government Measures on Road Safety
