Crime in Odisha / One-Sided Love Turns Violent: Teacher Held After Attacking Colleague’s Family in Balasore

Balasore, Aug 18: A contractual teacher was arrested for allegedly attacking the family members of a fellow woman teacher with a sharp weapon after she rejected his one-sided love advances in Odisha’s Balasore district, police said on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Pruthviraj Kar. He was
working as a contractual teacher at Oupada High School, where the victim serves
as a Science teacher.
Kar had reportedly developed a one-sided affection for her and engaged in
inappropriate behaviour, leading to his dismissal from service.

Enraged over the rejection and subsequent loss of employment, Kar allegedly attacked the teacher’s father, brother, and elder sibling at Patapur village under Oupada police limits.

✨The victims sustained grievous injuries, with the victim’s brother suffering a deep wound on his neck. He was first rushed to Soro hospital and later shifted to Balasore District Headquarters Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
The victim’s father and uncle also sustained injuries to the
chest and abdomen. All three are undergoing treatment, and their condition is
reported to be critical.

Police said the accused was taken into custody soon after the incident, and a case has been registered. Investigations are underway to ascertain the sequence of events and motive behind the attack.
