Bhubaneswar, Aug 18: A woman fought back during an alleged chain-snatching attempt near the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Bhubaneswar on Tuesday morning, resulting in one suspected snatcher being caught by locals.
According to a source, the woman was out for a morning walk near AIIMS when two men allegedly approached her on a motorcycle and attempted to snatch a gold chain from her neck.
The woman resisted and managed to pull one of the suspects, causing him to lose his balance and fall from the moving motorcycle, the source added.
Alert locals then rushed to the spot and overpowered the suspect before handing him over to police. A firearm was also reportedly recovered from his possession.
The arrested suspect is suspected to be from outside Odisha, while his alleged accomplice fled the scene, the source informed.
Police Launch Probe
Khandagiri police reached the spot after being informed about the incident and launched an investigation.
Police are making efforts to identify and apprehend the absconding suspect. The Commissionerate Police is also verifying the identity and criminal antecedents of the arrested suspect and examining the circumstances surrounding the alleged chain-snatching attempt.

Similar Case In Puri
In a separate incident reported on August 11, a man was apprehended by Puri Police after snatching a gold chain from a tourist who was bathing in the sea at the beach.
The stolen chain was also recovered following a swift chase by the PCR-5 team of Puri Police.
According to the source, a group of tourists from Dhenkanal district had visited Puri and were bathing in the sea when the accused took advantage of the situation and snatched a gold chain from one of the tourists
After committing the theft, the accused fled from the spot with the chain. On receiving information about the incident, the PCR-5 team immediately reached the location and began chasing the suspect, the source added.
The accused entered a nearby lane in an attempt to evade the police. During the chase, he threw the stolen gold chain near an electrical transformer, apparently in an attempt to get rid of the evidence and escape.
However, PCR-5 personnel continued to track his movements and eventually caught him while he was trying to flee from the area.
