CRUT Announces Free Bus Travel for Women on Raksha Bandhan

Key Points

CRUT allowed women passengers to travel free of cost on Ama Bus services in seven Odisha cities on Raksha Bandhan, with zero-fare tickets being issued.

Bhubaneswar, Aug 27: Women passengers in Odisha received a special Raksha Bandhan gift on Thursday, with the Comprehensive Region Urban Transport (CRUT) allowing them to travel free of cost on ‘Ama Bus’ services for one day.

The fare-free facility is available on all Ama Buses operating in Bhubaneswar, Kataka, Puri, Raurkela, Sambalpur, Brahmapur and Kendujhar.

Under the initiative, women passengers are being issued zero-fare tickets while travelling on Ama Buses. The move is expected to benefit more than one lakh women passengers during the day.

CRUT said the initiative is aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and ensuring that women can access public transport in a safe, convenient and financially accessible manner.

Ama Bus services have also been equipped with passenger and safety features, including GPS-based tracking, CCTV surveillance, trained bus staff and passenger assistance facilities.

Women passengers have welcomed CRUT’s initiative, saying such measures can make public transport more accessible, affordable and convenient for them.

Expressing her happiness over the initiative, a woman passenger said, “I am feeling elated to travel for free on an Ama Bus on Rakhi Purnima. Today, Subhadra instalments are also being disbursed, so it is a win-win day for all women in Odisha.”

Ama Bus conductor Basant Gauda said, “Many women are offering me the fare because they are unaware that CRUT has made travel free for women today. We are issuing zero-fare tickets to them, and they are pleasantly surprised when they learn about the initiative.”
